Far From Home – The Parable of the Loving Father, or The Waiting Father
One thing you may or may not know about pastors is that we are ALWAYS on the look out for good sermon illustrations. We maintain this CONSTANT search because we know how valuable…how precious…a REALLY good story is when it comes to making a sermon understandable. I counted this week and discovered that in my own library I have twelve different dog-eared books of sermon illustration collections that I have gathered over the years. I also own a computer program called Biblical Illustrator, that contains over 3,000 illustrations carefully catalogued according to topic. I even subscribe to Preaching Today….a computer Internet service that has over 6,000 illustrations arranged by topic or Biblical text. I constantly scan periodicals and listen to the nightly news in the hopes of finding illustrations. I will gladly pay $20 for a book even if it only has one good illustration within its pages.
